Katie graduated from Occupational Therapy in 2010 and has worked in a range of Paediatric Occupational Therapy roles including schools, community health, early childhood intervention service and private practice. Katie has worked at Building Blocks Therapy since 2014.
Katie has always had a passion for working with children and their families and helping them develop their skills in a range of areas. She works in a neuro-affirming way to ensure that all children and families feel welcome and listened to. She creates individualised therapy for the child that helps them develop their skills in a fun and supportive environment. Providing families with practical strategies that can be implemented in their daily life and working closely with other people in the child’s care team.
Katie has a number of roles at Building Blocks therapy in addition to providing individual occupational therapy support:
She leads our childcare and kindergarten program that fosters inclusive and supportive learning environments. Providing educators with practical tools and therapeutic knowledge, equipping them to create more responsive and inclusive rooms and outdoor play spaces. Part of this program is supporting kindergartens with School Readiness Funding.
She leads our onboarding process for both new clients and new therapists to Building Blocks Therapy. Katie believes that this onboarding process is important for families to feel welcome at Building Blocks Therapy and help therapists gain a deeper understanding of the challenges for the family and child. The onboarding process for new therapists helps therapists feel supported and learn about Building Blocks Therapy while working as an occupational therapist.
She works in our Family Connections program that seeks to empower parents with strategies to build connection with their child, that will in turn support their child’s emotional regulation and participation in daily life.
She co-leads the infant and toddler stream which includes the Cuddle Crew and Wobble and Walk Crew playgroups. Katie is particularly passionate about working with younger children and helping children and their families get support from an early age.
Katie also manages and supervises a number of Occupational Therapists on the Building Blocks Therapy team. She has a high importance on well-being of staff members and supports them in a style that works best for them, helping them achieve their goals while looking after themselves.
Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time with her family, including her dog, and friends. She loves playing and watching sport and going for walks or to the beach.
